A Bit Of History
The first Pokémon cards were released in 1996 in Japan and later in North America and Europe. Since then, several series of Pokémon cards have been produced, each featuring new Pokémon and new game mechanics.
Since Nintendo (yes, the game producer 😉) released the first cards almost 25 years ago, the cards have been a must-have accessory at many school playgrounds. But adults also enjoy them and there are regular conventions where people meet to duel and swap.
Once you've learned everything you need to know about Pokémon cards, you might want to visit one of these conventions - here's a list of the current events in Switzerland: https://www.tradingcardgames.ch/
The Game Of Pokémon
The Pokémon game with cards is a turn-based game in which two players compete against each other. Each player has a deck of 60 cards containing Pokémon, Trainers and Energy cards. The object of the game is to win all six of your opponent's prize cards or cause your opponent to run out of cards in their hand.
A player can also win a Prize Card by defeating an opponent's Pokémon. If a player wins all six of their opponent's Prize cards, or if their opponent runs out of cards in their hand, that player wins the game.
